About This Site

All films are meant to have an audience... even bad the ones...

... But for some reason we are allowing Hollywood to decide what we watch nowadays. And they’re putting money behind it to make sure we watch it. Because of this, Hollywood-type films are the ones with the largest audience, with mainstream art house and independent cinema not far behind. This leaves little to no audience for the lesser appreciated of cinema. As a film-enthusiast, it frustrates me when I miss out on a film because it doesn’t get a proper screening, thus never finds its audience. Many of us have missed out on some truly amazing films as result of this.

The purpose of Bottom Of The Barrel is to achieve an audience for this particular brand of cinema: the b-movie film. Often people say they do not watch these films because they are dumb or silly or just plain bad. That alone should be reason to watch these films. Because they are dumb and silly and bad, that is what makes these films entertaining and worth watching! Bottom Of The Barrel is giving a voice to these films, so that they will find an audience. You may not think these type of films are your cup of tea, but you never know until you watch it. You may actually like what you see. You may perceive the website for Bottom Of The Barrel as a farcical website, but our enthusiasm for b-movie cinema is nothing short of sincere. We are providing a shrine to these under appreciated gems of cinema. We see the good in the bad. We give these films new life, a life they deserve.

But Bottom Of The Barrel is not just about b-movie enthusiasm, it is about enthusiasm for all cinema in general. This is not a response to the overpowering success of Hollywood cinema; this is merely a simulation to watch more than just Hollywood cinema or popular independent cinema. The problem today is most people just watch the movies at the multiplexes, the movies that make millions of dollars, the movies that everyone else wants to see. There is nothing wrong with watching those films; but don’t stop at Hollywood and mainstream independent fare. Take a look around a video store and see what else they have to offer. Go to your local repertory and art house theaters to see what they are showing. Watch something else for a change! Open yourself up to all films, discover movies that you have never heard of, rediscover cinema! And if you discover a film that no one else has seen, tell everyone about, show your support, toot its horn; let the world know why you loved this film.

Now is the time to bring the passion back to watching movies! All films are meant to have an audience, even bad ones. Become that audience...

We love bad movies!... and so should you!

TURN DOWN THE GOOD, TURN UP THE SUCK!
