Now before you get excited, I'm not reporting on an announcement of The Monster Squad on DVD. As of right now there are no plans... but there is hope. At a recent anniversary screening in Texas, director Fred Dekker responded to fan questions about a potential Monster Squad DVD, as well as a potential DVD for his other equally awesome film Night of the Creeps. He said that the studio that owns the rights to the films feels there is not enough fan support and have chosen at the moment not to release them. Now you may be one of those people that wrote an email or signed an online petition to request the release of these films; it turns out that doesn't work. Why? Because an email is so easy to delete. An online petition is so easy to ignore. They are means which are not always taken seriously, as they are impersonal means.
So how does one request The Monster Squad on DVD? Strangely enough, yet not surprisingly, it's the old fashioned way: write a letter. You see, Fred Dekker made a really good point: an email or online petition is easy to ignore, especially since all you have to do is press the delete key on the keyboard to get rid of it. Actual physical letters, on the other hand, are not that easy to ignore or get rid of, especially if they start to pile up. Studios will look at a letter and see that if these people took the time and effort to write this letter and pay for the envelope and stamp just to request a film to be released on DVD, then they must be willing to spend their money on said DVD. It makes sense, doesn't it? In fact, you're probably thinking now about all those times you wrote those emails or signed an online petition to rescue something, only to realize that it probably didn't make a difference. Did you try to save a TV show from cancellation by signing an online petition? What if you and everyone else wrote a letter instead? That show might still be on the air. Makes you think...
So, with all that being said:
If you want a MONSTER SQUAD DVD write to:
Mr. Sumner M. Redstone
Viacom
1515 Broadway
New York, NY 10036

If you want a NIGHT OF THE CREEPS DVD write to:
Mr. Michael Lynton
Mr. Bob Osher
Sony Pictures Entertainment
10202 West Washingtopn Blvd.
Culver City, CA 90232
So get off your lazy fanboy ass and start writing, won't ya?! And make sure you're nice about it! The last thing us fanboys need is some asshole being a jerk to the studio. If know someone is doing that, make sure to kick him in the nards!
